I traded an 06 V-Rod Nightrod for my 09 XR. The V-Rod is faster, but not by a lot. The XR is more comfortable my a huge margin and is much more fun to ride. There is also, in my opinion, a design flaw with the night rod engine. On the left side under the gear cover is a bolt that has a tendency to come loose.

Long days, rain, shine, all kinds of roads. This bike rips up the backroads and gives you miles of smiles. Redline is 7000-ish and I bounce off that from time to time. Pulls hard up thru 5500 or so. A stock XR is at 70 mph at 4000 rpm, so yes, that's accurate. An easy pulley change will improve this.
The XR-X front fender bracket was re-stamped purposely for the XR-X, its a little lower, wider, covers the fork lower better, and has the 3 slots per side (and a little different contour above the mounting which is why its tougher to cut or re-drill to lower it vs the older bracket).
